I have recently received back in the studio one of my dancing rhinos after his long gig on display at The Barbican in London, where he stood in the library for many years.
He has fared better than many of his siblings, who were forced to run all over the world in full marathons.
Born in Chichester theatre, and constructed by my good friend Vin Burnham from my design, who used a cast from cow’s tripe to achieve the texture of the rhino’s rough hide – he enjoyed a short run in ‘Born Again’ directed by Peter Hall.
We also made two full sized rhinos, which appeared on stage by smashing through a glass elevator, frightening the good theatre folk of Chichester!
